Type 1 hair is characterized by straight hair with no curl pattern or wave. There are three subtypes of Type 1 hair. These subtypes are 1A, 1B, and 1C, each with unique characteristics.

Type 1A hair is the finest and thinnest of all hair types. It's very soft and has a noticeable shine, making it look silky and smooth. However, Type 1A hair can be prone to oiliness and sometimes appear flat.

Type 1B hair is slightly thicker than Type 1A and has more body. It's still straight but may have a slight bend or wave. In addition, class 1B hair is more oily-resistant than Type 1A but can still become greasy if not washed regularly.

Type 1C hair is the thickest and coarsest of all the Type 1 hair types. As a result, it's the most resistant to curly styling and tends to have a wiry texture. Type 1C hair is less prone to oiliness than the other two subtypes, but it can still become oily if not correctly cared for.

Regardless of the subtype, Type 1 hair tends to be low maintenance and easy to style. It can easily be straightened with a flat iron or blow dryer and typically requires less product than other hair types. However, using hair care products appropriate for your hair type, such as those specifically designed for Type 1 hair, is still essential.

Type 2 hair is wavy hair that typically falls between straight and curly. It's not too oily or dry, making it relatively easy to maintain. There are three subtypes of Type 2 hair, each with unique characteristics.

Type 2A hair is fine and thin, with loose waves that are easy to manage. This hair type can easily be straightened or curled with a styling tool, making it a versatile choice. However, Type 2A hair can be prone to oiliness and may appear limp or lifeless if not correctly cared for.

Type 2B hair is characterized by natural waves that tend to adhere to the shape of your head. It's thicker than Type 2A hair and has more volume, making it ideal for creating beachy, tousled hairstyles. However, Type 2B hair can be prone to frizz and may require extra care to keep it under control.

Type 2C hair is the most textured of the Type 2 hair types, with more defined and tightly coiled waves. It's the coarsest of the three subtypes and is prone to frizz and tangling. However, with the proper care and styling products, Type 2C hair can be transformed into a beautiful, voluminous style.

Type 3 curly hair is characterized by well-defined curls that range from loose to tight. According to the Andre Walker Hair Typing System, this hair type is further classified into two subtypes.

Type 3A hair is gleaming and has loose curls about the size of sidewalk chalk. This hair type is typically easy to manage and style, but it can be prone to frizz if not correctly cared for. In addition, type 3A hair is often texture-accepted, making it susceptible to damage if it's not properly moisturized and nourished.

Type 3B hair has a medium amount of curls that range from bouncy ringlets to tight corkscrews. Class 3B hair curls are about the size of a Sharpie marker. This hair type tends to be more coarse in texture and may require more moisture and nourishment than Type 3A hair. Type 3B hair can also be prone to frizz and may require extra care to maintain its defined curl pattern.

Type 4A hair is full of tight coils with an "S" pattern when stretched, similar to Type 3 curly hair. This hair type is fragile and requires a lot of moisture to maintain its elasticity and prevent breakage. Style 4A hair may also be prone to shrinkage, making it appear shorter.

Type 4B hair has a less defined pattern of curls and looks more like a "Z" as the hair bends with sharp angles. Type 4B hair may also be prone to tangling, which can make it challenging to manage.

Type 4C hair type is characterized by very tight coils that may appear to be a mix of Type 4A and 4B. Type 4C hair is extremely fragile and requires a lot of moisture and gentle handling to prevent breakage.

Type 4D hair is characterized by tightly coiled hair that may have a zigzag or irregular pattern. This hair type is even more fragile than Type 4B and requires a lot of moisture, gentle handling, and specialized care to prevent breakage and promote healthy growth.
